What to wear in a same sex dance partnership

Or two different shades of the same colour, one lighter, one more intense... like lilac and purple, or pink and burgundy. I just did ballet duet costumes with flipping the highlight and main colours like @fineshrine suggests if you want to get an idea. They came out like this:

    Happy and/or Random Thoughts #3

^ Lol. I do this while brushing my teeth and doing dishes. Usually with single leg releves, or a balance with my heel raised. I am terrible at them.

    When to start open routines?

Keep in mind that if you go for closed silver routines, you can dance them in open bronze and open silver as well... either dance several levels at the same time, or stick with your planned level progression without changing the routine. If you're someone that likes to keep routines for a while...

High bun or low bun hair for competition?

    Oops, duplicate post!

High bun or low bun hair for competition?

I do both, and when I do hair for others, I do both... and sometimes completely rebel and do it to one side. Factors that make me opt for low bun: - the hair is a little too short to reach a high pony, and is too thick for "apply tons of gel and hope" to be a reliable strategy to make high hair...

    When to start open routines?

And I'm the polar opposite :) I have never competed a closed syllabus routine. I don't even recall ever learning one... but that doesn't mean I haven't learned my syllabus figures. I just did them in a less structured way. And I've never paid for outside choreo, but pro and I both like to...

Do you tell people what your goals are? Is it normal to not have any or only vague goals?

I've learned to selectively share my goals in dance (unfortunately, in my opinion). As a fairly private person, some of the early experiences I had with trying to be more open around the studio did not go well. Consequently, I have a number that I have never told to anyone outside of my...

Little Christmas (Jan 6) is big in some communities... maybe they are part of that tradition? I know, for example, that the tree at the studio usually comes down the weekend after Little Christmas.

Update: The itching was worse. It took a week of prescription antihistamines and steroids to clear it up... but the tooth saga is not over. Saw the specialist for a consultation this week, and have been warned that the root canal is not a guaranteed success. Everyone cross your fingers that...

    Whining Thread #2

I came down with a severe tooth abscess last weekend, so have a root canal to look forward to in the new year, and now I'm having a spectacular reaction to one of the antibiotics I was on. Full body, supremely itchy rash that is hot to the touch. I've spent the last two days doing the...

Is it normal to get my blood boil when the teachers focuses on correcting my frame?

I do tend to get peeved when pro keeps correcting something that I am well aware of and am actively working on - because a correction to something fundamental like frame will come in and out for a while. By that I mean once I start working on it, it's not like "poof, fixed!"... it will be there...

    Social Dance: The Music

Lol. My current favourite cha to practice to is a remix of "Please Don't Stop the Music". It's not traditional, and I don't care. I like the song, and it makes me want to dance.

Spoke with pro. Deal struck. Hiding, performing and leaving is totally okay if that's what I feel I need to do day-of. He will even speak to the one pro who is, for lack of a better way to describe it, the one that gives me major social anxiety because I need to act and speak a certain way or...

how are your lessons going? thread II

@Dance Redeemer I'm so glad sharing what I realized helped! Not everyone thrives in those environments, and that's okay. It doesn't mean that we should not be dancers, it just means we need to do it a little differently. Now that I've figured out what's going on, I'm going to speak to pro...

    Happy and/or Random Thoughts #3

Feeling incredible after yesterday's epiphany (posted about in the lessons thread). After posting, had myself a good cry, some food, went to bed early, and slept like a rock for 11 hours - right through my alarm (whoops). I hadn't realized how much I was stressing about the fact that I didn't...

how are your lessons going? thread II

OMG, all. Epiphany when speaking with my psychologist today. (Yes, I see one regularly. It helps.) Yes, I am at a bit of a crossroads with my dancing and may indeed be done with pro-am, which is not a new thought... but me not wanting to be at main studio unless it is closed lately isn't...

    Social Dance: The Music

There's a social around here that starts all of its dance tracks by announcing what dance it is, like "let's cha-cha!". I hear that most social dancers actually really enjoy it. It takes the pressure off beginning and intermediate dancers as they don't need to identify the what dance goes with...
