Social Dancing: Thoughts, Experiences, Stories, Advice

The real question is, does Ballroom really have social dancing communities. I haven't been able to find that easily. Everyone is really focused on competitions.

    Lack of Energy

Listening to "calm" app and good daily sleep helps me a ton. Also stretching every morning. There are a ton of reels on IG you can find with a simple stretch morning routine that lives you feeling energized. Of course also protein. Dancing is in the end a sport.

The long-term solution is dual-role dancing?

Tango is more expensive. The workshops and the milongas, even the shoes are more expensive. Young crowd doing sensual bachata can't pay more than $15/p for a social and thats a stretch. But social media that supports the dance community growth so much won't work without the young crowd. Both...

The long-term solution is dual-role dancing?

It is so personality dependent. I have seen so many 35+ men go into those sensual bachata classes, or try to. And last week I have witnessed another 50+ follower asking for bachata body movement. I don't know.. I think both crowds need each other for the community to function.

The long-term solution is dual-role dancing?

The sensual bachata trend is definitely taking over every class out there, even salsa if you can believe it. All ages and all demographics. However I am not sure those men won't be disillusioned with the lack of interest from the followers they are trying to dance with, who want to be a part of...

The long-term solution is dual-role dancing?

These are some good stats. I see what you mean with the numbers being small. However, one thing that I think you might be overseeing is that having a group of young people part of the dance community make it more attractive for everyone else to be a part of and to stay being a part of. It makes...

Stay on1 vs. Transition on2 vs. Keep both!

It is also a lot more difficult to switch from on 1 to on 2. It took me several months of dedicated practices to do it when I was already very familiar with salsa on 1. So it makes sense that people start this later and only if they are motivated by mastery.

    How are your practices going?

Worked yesterday on projecting my feet in front of me and leading with the toe and then releasing the foot on to the heel. Additionally worked on syncopated rhythms "one and two" and recognizing appropriate spots for them in the songs. its work in progress.

Online versus offline purchase of Dance items

Online always unless at events and need shoes right away or its the same price and quality as online. I am sure it makes it difficult for studios and dance outlets to carry products.

    Unwanted tuition

I completely agree with your point of 'there is a time and space for everything". These things are definitely appropriate in practicas but probably are not appropriate during a social dance. No one should be apologizing for their dance mistakes and it really affects the dynamic of the dance when...

    Unwanted tuition

Thank you for your comment and for someone like me, I would definitely agree. But I have found that sooo much of everything in dance or human interaction depends on how we take things and which ones actually benefit us and which ones discourage us and how we handle that rejection, that it is...

The long-term solution is dual-role dancing?

I found that college clubs are a huge element of success for the dance community in general. If there is a way to integrate the college dancers smoothly into the existing dance scene, everyone benefits. however college dance clubs are the labor of love with lots of time investment and little...

The long-term solution is dual-role dancing?

So the question is, why don't men go into Tango dancing more. There are obviously enough women to dance and socialize with and it seems it would be an obvious and popular choice for many. The online dating ofcourse is one, as you mentioned, but the fear of embarrassment is probably the leading...

Fun / new Line Dancing ideas for studio showcase

Hello all! I was wondering if you could help me pinpoint some fun line dances that are not too overused and are complicated enough so that we can include it as a number in our Winter Studio Showcase this year. We have done "Fake ID" in the past, but I am not sure if there are any line dances...
