Yeah, it often plays out that way. The performance interruption lingers on, announcements are made, people clap for another dance, and so on. And when it's over, a bunch of people leave, even though it's still fairly early.So, start to finish, 3 to 5 pieces of maybe 10-15 minutes total are danced in an interruption that endures for half an hour or more, breaking up the tanda structure and causing at least a few people you want to dance with to decide that's it for the evening: The Performance is done and I can go home.
