FWIW, for me, the way to evaluate/compare cadencia, is to watch how dancers walk (not so much when doing figures).

Reducing the milieu down to something easier to compare.

I thought they were good, so I couldn't call it ho hum. IMO, it was for the most part, a very clean performance (maybe other than the colgada). Maybe some day, I'll be able to dance as well as them.

However, in principle I do see your point. At times, it lacks what I would describe as "attitude" (just what you wanted, another nebulous term). Some of this may simply be due to their interpretation of the song. I looked, but didn't find any other videos with them, thus I couldn't test my hypothesis.

Now it's difficult for me to give an objective comparison of the two performances because:
1) Canaro's "Milonga Criolla" is one of my favorite milongas (along with Canaro's "Silueta Portena").
2) The style of the songs dictates a very different interpretation.
In any case, I agree that the second couple had "it".

I would agree with you Dchester and also Mario. To me, the walk (and way you use your body/legs/feet therein) informs everything else, and I don't think it will show up other places if it doesn't show in the walk.

OK, this dance video shows a professor of Tango and the dance has little to no Cadencia. I would call it 'Ho-humm', even with sophisticated camera work. Is it a matter of personal opinion? Of course, but I'm trying to pick stuff that other's would agree with, otherwise it's all a moot point. Perhaps, I'll have to go to BsAs in order to use the term in a conversation.

I am not at all impressed with this guy's dancing. It seems to me ever so dry and unemotional.

And, again, we have spent days going around and around only to return to what we all knew in the beginning.

This video is worth watching. You will have to wait until 43 seconds in when the light finally is good and the dance can be clearly seen..worth waiting for, this is not your father's Oldsmobile!
