Dumb question

So, Generalist, when you walk into a room with several hundred people in it, your expectation is that all the women in the room should be making clothing choices to please you???

Of course I would prefer that (and dresses would be the smart choice since 99% of the male population thinks that is the sexiest choice) but I realize people have a right to choose their clothes within acceptable boundaries. However, if I'm in a dance event and there are competitions, I think women should be required to wear a dress. If we are at all serious this should be a requirement.

In social dance neither gender should be allowed to wear jeans. Pants are OK for both.

Men should wear appropriate slacks. Do you think dancesport would be enhanced if men wore baggy pants like gang bangers?

For example, at the Wimbledon tennis tournament all players are required to wear white. I expect any serious sport or event has clothing rules to make their pros look like pros.

Do you expect the rest of the world to revolve around you, too, or just that part???

Those women could look good wearing a burlap bag. But too often they don't look like professionals when they compete -- and they would look much better if they wore dresses or skirts.

When I grew up in the seventies everyone wore jeans. I mean everyone! So, WCS dancers look like relics of the 70's. Real hip, huh?

I guess you and me (and many other woman and some men here) will just have to agree to disagree. I can't imagine dancing wcs in a skirt.

I didn't watch the video, but note that the sign in the background proclaims it to be BALLROOM studio. Not taking style advice on WCS from a ballroom studio. Plus, look at her shoes. (Top level dancers can do proper WCS in shoes like that--thinking of a killer Melissa Rutz routine--I cannot. OK, fine, I cannot walk across a room in shoes like that, but that's another matter.)

(Cross thread note: maybe there are fewer women coming to the classes/dances 'cause they don't like how they are being judged on a sexiness scale every time they walk through the door. )

Depends on whether they're Westies who just happen to be using a BR studio (Pittsburgh's WCS dance has been at a studio since losing its prior venue at a community center, but the teaching is done by Westies). But, yeah, that couple is definitely ballroom instructors rather than Westies -- and I can't remember the last time a real WCS instructor called a follower "the lady".

Let me rephrase one more time. YOU will never catch ME wearing a skirt doing west coast swing ever again. I did it in my early days of wcs but no more. I find it more freeing to dance in jeans and leggings and pants, than a skirt while dancing wcs. But again that is MY opinion and if I lose dances because I am not wearing a skirt, well it's the guys' loss not mine.

Agreed. They didn't look like westies at all to me. Definitely just instructors. A lot of their "tripples" had a lot of bounce in them, which is not WCS.

Also I haven't really seen any westie women (tat, sarah, jessica, debra, etc.) ever wearing skirts unless it was a formal evening.

The classic female uniform for wcs was super cute tops with black dance pants. I like that look but Jessica in jeans or a skirt or a bikini is Finnnnneeeeeee with me
