Dumb question

And must we stick to the origins of the dance? Do we need to be stuck in the 50's here? The dance itself clearly has progressed since then, so why not the style in which we dress to dance said dance as well? Why not evolve?
 
Notice how at 2:08 she has to pull the skirt down... not a problem with pants!
OTOH when was the last time you've seen anybody dance like that aside from a showcase with a pro? IME never, at least not around here or a few other locales. Perhaps I'm too provincial.
 
I once altered a dress right before a performance. I was sick as a dog and not thinking straight so I made the waist WAY too loose. I was pulling it up through the whole dance. So embarrassing.

Also, I have seen all kinds of dresses where I hated the style or color. We should make a rule against that.
