So . . . people who've been dancing since then and people taught by them still have a lot of that in their dance DNA. I started in 2013, 10 years after that was cool, and the syllabus included boleos, empujadas, enganches, ganchos, piernazos, and all the other stuff with high legs, not to mention movements ripped straight out of ballet (the background of two of the teachers), like battements, and even gymnastics (the school founder was a gymnast).
But overall, in the period when I started, there was a sort of "return to origins" movement that placed a higher value on a good walk and smaller, crowd-friendly movements.
