Yesterday after my lesson I went to Nordstrom Rack on a whim. I've went in there before a few times, but never bought much. But yesterday they were stocked with new dresses, and I ended up buying two. The first is a short sleeved burgundy plaid; it has a ruffle like hem with the fabric running diagonal. The dress is a Calvin Klein, and while I like Calvin Klein, most of their dress silhouettes are not flattering on me, but this dress worked because the cut was a little more flowing (read: generous). Cost was around $56. The second dress was a long sleeved burgundy abstract print. The label said Halogen, a brand I haven't heard of. Cost, on clearance, was under $25. So Purr is a happy camper. I already have loads of coordinating accessories. The burgundy plaid dress is completely appropriate for work, and will dress up easily, so I can see getting a lot of wear out of it. The other dress, well, I don't think I'd wear it for anything but dancing, but you never know. For under $25 who cares??!!
 
Reading the news this morning. The headline says: "Transgender activist is cast in new Supergirl show"

My reaction: 'wait, there's a new Supergirl show? How did I not know this?'

(I think the "news" was supposed to be the transgender part... which the article confirmed. And more importantly, I learned that there is no new Supergirl show, but she will be a new character on the existing one.)
 
Motorized scooters have arrived in the downtown. Riders stand on a slim metal bar and use handlebars to accelerate or brake. According to the directions, riders are supposed to wear helmets and stay off sidewalks. No riders I've seen have been wearing helmets or any protective gear of any kind, and many ride on the sidewalks. I've seen quite a few riders going at speeds that are very fast. It's going to be a mess when a rider has an accident, which seems inevitable.

I've wondered if some of these riders have children, what kind of protective gear they require the children to wear. Oh, in case anyone is wondering, I have no interest in trying a scooter out. I prefer to walk.
 
File under random.... was looking through files at work on the shared department network and stumbled across a 15-year old Word document created by an e'ee who has been gone for at least a decade. It listed their flight numbers/dates for an upcoming vacation, along with his and his spouse's boss's phone numbers, location of life insurance policies, vet phone # and last wishes for the dogs if they did not return, etc.

Gosh, and he's been gone for a decade? I suppose the dogs are goners by now, but did you at least try to cash in the life insurance?
 
So, went to Ulta Beauty Sunday. Saw a beautiful sparkly garnet liquid product. Got a tester and swab to try it out. Nice consistency and color. Then noticed the product was an eye shadow??!! Really??!! Would have worked better as a lip gloss. Didn't buy it. :(
 
Got my eyes tested for the first time in 15 years and they were...not awful. Worse than when I was a teenager for sure, but actually not by much--which is a miracle considering my mom and all of my sisters are blinder than bats without their glasses.
 
More makeup adventures. Saw new L'Oréal burgundy mascara at Walgreen's. Packaging looked a little red but decided to give it a try. Mascara looks reddish brown on the tube, and dries a darker mostly brown color. Looks nice - I use it on my upper lashes and use black mascara on the lower lashes, otherwise they get lost. Usually pair it with plum eyeliner.

Am also a fan of Clinique's Portly Plum mascara. Same technique - plum mascara on upper lashes and black mascara on the lower lashes. Dries a dark plum color, but reads as a dark brown unless you're really close. Usually pair it with green or grey eyeliner.

Have also tried L'Oréal's cobalt mascara. Looks cobalt on the tube, and dries similar. Looks quite startling; not exactly flattering, too harsh and aging. Falls into the what-in-the-world-was-purr-thinking kind of thing. Will play with it once in a while it lasts, but won't buy it again.

For sure, I have a makeup problem. :)

Bought a garnet liquid metal lip color last week at Ulta Beauty. Packaging said color would last 8 hours, I think. I don't know about that, but it did last over 4 hours Friday evening when I went out. Even lasted through drinking bottled water and eating a protein bar.

Didn't buy anything else from the line. Eyeshadow colors in display were yellow, brown, and red, and some were quite sparkly. Yellow??!! Red??!! Really??!! Blush colors were also kind of warm orange tint. I'm not sure who would look good with this palette, but I'm not one of them. Wrong colors, and I'm too old for this (stuff, moderating self) anyway. My riff on the palette was pale pink matte eyeshadow, medium brown matte eyeshadow, and iris slightly iridescent eyeshadow, and heather pop blush, along with aforementioned garnet lip color. The burgundy mascara mentioned a few posts ago also made an appearance.

Seriously, I need to stay out of Ulta Beauty. Only went in because I needed eye makeup remover and a hair styling product. Came out with both, and the garnet lip color. No idea how it happened. A rep also foisted a sample of a eye makeup remover balm on me, which I've since tried and actually like. Don't need any now, but might buy it when I run out again.

Where's that 12 step program????
 
So, I have a bowl of candy on a table outside my office door. That way it's not readily accessible to me, so I won't eat it, but my coworkers can enjoy it. Coworker just asks me if some of the candy had sat in the car awhile, because the candy looked like it had melted a little, then re hardened. It had, but so what, and it was only part of the candy, anyway??!! Coworker must not have minded, because so far he's went through about 3 Reese's cups, and a Hershey's Krackel bar. Unbelievable. :(
 
@Purr at least you wear it - I can't resist a lipstick. I own approximately 30. I don't wear lipstick in daily life - special occasions only, really. I have a problem.

One of my coworkers is like you - she has a lot of MAC lipsticks, but very seldom wears them.

I am very pale and washed out without makeup. And the minimalist look doesn't really work for me - the idea of a 5 minute face sounds good on paper but doesn't work in real life. So I'm all in.
