Depends. Given your age, almost any of them will be okay. The monthly milongas draw the biggest crowds (Volver, Mala Leche, Barillito)--maybe 150-200 people. Floorcraft at those events is generally not good. You would probably enjoy Gallo Ciego--music is always good and it's a nice, small space to dance in. Cliquish crowd but you'll be okay. Often have lots of beginners there. El Destino would work for you. DJ is excellent; space itself is terrible (long and narrow); crowd is cliquish but visitors go there as well. I stopped going there over a year ago. Couldn't stand the vibe. Oh, you might also like La Nacional. Really nice space to dance, a real bar, tables and chairs. With a good DJ it can be a really nice milonga. They often have performances. Crowd is not snobbish. It's where all the Argentines go and all the teachers. Ensueño is very laid back; DJ quality varies a great deal, but it doesn't draw much of a crowd and they tend to be older. There are others on the NY Tango page. Ask me if you have any specific questions. Not sure about the prácticas. You could go to the Tuesday night práctica, although it's been so crowded that Robin doesn't even post it anymore. There are several on Saturday early afternoon that are popular. I don't go because they're too early for me.So any recommendations for NYC milongas then? Should I even bother considering the practicas unless I want to practise?
