Who is going? Are you competing, and if so, in what events?

My DH and I are doing silver level latin--Adult A and Senior I.

I've never been to this comp before, but I've heard great things. I'm super-excited to try it out.

:) Becky

We'll be there. We couldn't get both nights free, so we're just doing the open smooth championship Friday night, not the standard on Saturday.

question about MAC - i haven't bought my spectator tickets yet, and from what i see on the MAC website, it looks like the only way to do so is to print out the PDF and mail it in with payment....

this will be my first time at MAC and i don't want to get shut out of tickets because i bought late... can someone advise if there's another way to get tix in advance of the friday night crush?

alemana, you're best bet for Friday night tickets is to contact the organizers directly or......

P.S. I'll be there and competing Fri night.

Ok Sagitta,

rule 1.....

KNOW WHO YOU ARE FLIRTING WITH.

If you have read some of the things I have written in the past, you would know that I am certainly not a 'temptress'

I AM A MAN

If you're into flirting with men, you may find happiness elsewhere. Just because I like dancing, that does not mean I flirt with men either. Ladies, here is a prime example of a someone (a moderator  ) who will hit on anything he thinks is wearing a skirt. I'm not sure which category this will be nominated for...

On Topic:

Is the MAC worth going to if you are not competiting? Is there adequate seating and space to move about?

UltraMagnus,
Hard to say if it's worth watching. It all depends on what you're looking for. Historically, the MAC competition was always very popular and featured some of the best dancers in the country. The quality of dancing combined with the large crowd and spirited atmosphere provided a unique experience one would be hard pressed to find elsewhere in the country. Subsequently, the large, spacious, auditorium where it was held would get quite crowded and moving around on the floor could be a challenge. It becomes even more of a challenge when you realize that food/snack options are rather limited and the evening session was a LONG evening (I think they wrapped up last time at around 2AM  ) However, the visceral thrill of watching Eugene Katsuvman and Maria Manusova for 4 rounds in the Championship Latin event somehow made all of the hassle well worth it.

This year may be a bit different, since the MAC is no longer a regional qualifier for the Nationals. Subsequently, you may not be able to see the very best couples competing. I also notice that online registration numbers are down a bit from last year, so a general decline in participation may also occur.

In the end, it all depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a quiet evening out in a nice comfortable hotel ballroom, this may not be the place to be. However, if you are willing to do w/o some of the frills (pack some snacks and/or dinner for Friday) and want to see some good dancing in a spirited and lively atmosphere, this could be the ticket to get.

The evening session from last year has been split into two evening sessions this year (Friday and Saturday nights)... so those shouldn't run too late.

I found a prelim schedule. I'll copy Friday and Saturday evening session schedules:

Friday, Jan. 14 - evening session
Doors open at 7 pm
Competition begins at 8 pm
Smooth A pre-champ and champ
Standard Sr II pre-champ and champ
Rhythm Sr I, Sr II - pre-champ and champ
Team Match
Formation Team
Masters of Syllabus Latin
Standard Youth pre-champ and champ
Latin A pre-champ and champ
Standard Sr I pre-champ and champ

Saturday, Jan. 15 - evening session
Doors open at 7 pm
Competition starts at 8 pm
Rhythm A - pre-champ and champ
Smooth Sr I, Sr II - pre-champ and champ
Latin Sr I - pre-champ and champ
Latin Sr II - pre-champ and champ
Masters of Syllabus - Standard
Standard A - pre-champ and champ
Latin Youth - pre-champ and champ

If you come, you'll see me and my partner getting our butts kicked in Masters of Syllabus both nights! It'll be an experience...

Many top NY couples that attended previous years will be at UK Open...

There will still be some top US couples though.
