Manhattan Amateur Classic (MAC) 2005

I don't think everyone dresses up quite like what might once have been customary at some of the fancier hotel comps, but wearing something a step or two above jeans and a T-shirt would be welcome.

Sounds like the place to be and meet Taita, among others! 8) Chris, you posted the official website some time back, right? I'll have to dig it up and post it here.

Any highlights or things you're looking forward to, anyone?

Finally dancing in a competition again! :) Life's been hectic since nationals; it's good to be getting back out there again. Even this close to home we cannot get enough free time to do both nights. Hopefully there will be several couples in the smooth championship. (Fingers crossed.)

That sounds great. :D Be sure to let us know your impressions -- not just placements or results, but how you felt. I'll be thinking about you. 8)

Good luck Chris :D :D

Here is a glimpse at the registered couples:

Not sure if it's a final list though....

Thanks, Pygmalion. I'll try to write something afterward.

Thanks, Katherine.

I know it's not final. For one, we're listed only in standard, though we're only doing smooth. Yay, there's another couple with us!!!

I don't think I'll be able to watch you dance, Katherine. I'm not sure how much of Saturday I can spend in Manhattan, but it's unlikely I can stay that late.

Any recommendations for places to eat or things to see? It'll be my first trip in NY. I worked my flights out so that I have all Thursday and Monday to play tourist!!

I think it's been said that people who live in a city have no idea what tourists would want to do there. I've been down here since Jan 1, and the most touristy thing I did was walk around lower Manhattan on New Years day... and that only because all the dance studios were closed!

Sushi is always nice.. can't give you the addresses... hehe

things to see: Broadway shows, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central park, Metropolitan Opera, the Bronx Zoo.

I remember Metropolitan Museum being closed on Monday (but double check), so if you want to see it - plan to do so like sunday or friday...

There are more interesting museums and little galleries, but the Met is most impessive...

Hahahaha....

With MAC as the starting point, try West 121st street and Amsterdam Ave.
Of course I haven't been to that location.

I leave for the MAC tomorrow in the AM, so I just wanted to jump on here and say GOOD LUCK to everyone who is competing!

I am excited and a little nervous, but mostly thrilled to be going to what looks like it will be a great comp!

the best sushi place i've found on manhattan so far is a little nook called koi. it's on 2nd ave and i think 11th st? or 12th? one of the two. it's a bit on the pricey side, but the atmosphere and service are great and the food is amazing. take your partner and get the sashimi for two combo--it's a work of art.
speaking of art, did you know that the met admission price is "suggested"? so if you spend all your money on sushi, you can go to the met for a dollar or something.
