Pro/am Requirement to Dance Heats to do Championships

A note: for comps that support it, the DanceComp app provides searchable entry lists. It's a really viable alternative to paper programs for finding out what the heats are going to be ahead of time. I mean, they aren't up weeks in advance - but that sounds like it's more an issue of just how late the entries are coming in.

Honestly, this just highlights how ridiculous it is that it's 2016 and the only way to see a list of everyone entered in each event is to pay for a paper program day of. There is no conceivable way it'd be that hard to set up compmngr with an event list view online, but being a monopoly provider for NDCA comps there's little to no incentive to add features to the software.

There is...dancecomp.org. App on my phone. The full program, searchable. 3 days before capital this weekend

One thing I don't understand (and pleading ignorance on this...) almost every comp has a disclaimer that 'age categories and levels may be combined if fewer than X numbers of entries' or something similar. Has anyone ever experienced that happening?

Dance comp app is good- but only a handful of comps are actually subscribed to it

Compmngr is perfectly capable. It has nothing to do with the NDCA. So be sure you actually know that those you are blaming are responsible.

The Organizers choose not to enable this feature because the 3 days leading up to the comp they really don't need to be be REARRANGING ENTIRE WEEKEND. And if they did that then what would even the point be of printing a program that would be so terribly inaccurate by the time to comp opened. Honeslty they would never have a point where they could say "we have the schedule ready".

So if it is really worth it to a competitor then they can make their heat changes. And if you can't be bothered to do the work to figure out how to or where to change your heats then I suppose the organizer shouldn't be bothered to do it for you, and they will just put you in where you enter.

if you get a program when you get there, you can pick accordingly

and, as Larinda said, usually as long as you are nice and you approach them when they aren't swamped, it's pretty easy to do...they don't even usually need to know your back story

Re: compmngr, there's a fancy tech-y method to target specific heats and events with the actual desktop website, using Page Source on the heat list. Some annoying counting involved in figuring out how large your event is, but it's not too bad. Definitely not as easy as o2cm and far more annoyingly obscure, but not impossible.

What do you do if your pro is hesitant to ask for any heat changes?

Also, is it wrong to approach the organizers for anything, except if going thru your teacher? Some teachers feel strongly about this.

I do what I want to maximize my dancing experience. I only make sure it doesn't cause a conflict with my pro time wise

I once realized fairly late that I was scheduled to dance in a championship at a NDCA comp as the only one IN THE HEAT. (It was an extra championship for a charity and pro and I were the only ones who decided to do it.)I actually spoke to the on deck person when I realized it and she took care of getting it combined with another heat for me. More . As I was doing it, I realized that 1) I was speaking to an official person without asking Pro first and 2) was changing Pro's schedule without asking Pro first. And if I hadn't been beyond horrified, I would have realized I wasn't really speaking to the correct person. More . Fortunately, they were happy to do it--were surprised that they hadn't noticed it and made the change themselves. Also fortunately, Pro knows me very well and knew that nothing would be worth trying to get me to do a championship out on the floor by myself at a very well attended competition.

I learned the hard way that I am not supposed to approach the organizers for anything, however small, unless I'm telling them how great their comp is. Anything else, is not ok- and has to go thru pro.

All pros are different in their likes and preferences I think.

haven't seen page source work on cpmngr in a long time.

I've done it for a ton of the last few big NDCA comps, including Empire -- are you page sourcing the right page (the list of names)?
