Replacing Windshield Glass?

Speaking of cars I got an oil change yesterday and my car smiled at me. I waited an extra month as my car sat for one whole winter month, but i don't think that I will do it again. My fuel milage has improved straight away. Oops! Maybe this is better in the gas price thread...

OK, i got 3 estimates this morning, one shop said if he attempts to fix it, there's an 80% chance that the crack will spread and the whole windshield glass will break. The 2nd one said it's "fairly" repairable and the last one said it's "very" repairable - now I'm left to wonder who's telling the truth....

whats the harm in waiting a month or two...if its gonna spread thats when it'll do it....and since glass is no longer going to shatter and spill in...what do you have to lose?...and not to be cynical b/c they may be being perfectly honest...but to use an analogy...very few plastic surgeons are gonna say " but you nose/breasts/ whatever are fine just the way they are";) ya know? it is in their interest to fix you car

I drove around with a crack in the windshield that started out at the bottom edge, snaked up and over to the passenger side edge for quite a while before I had the windshield replaced. It didn't break.

I also got a small rock indentation and took it to our local glass repair shop. He said as long as the impression was smaller than a quarter he could fix it, otherwise the glass would have to be replaced. I had the indentation repaired and it never re-cracked.

I currently have a different car with another small cracked spot that I have been driving with for over a year and haven't bothered to have it fixed.

Over the years I have had two windshields replaced for large cracks and I never had to pay anything out of pocket.

After $50 and 1/2 hour of waiting, i've finally got my windshield repaired - yes, i can still see marks but at least it's better than driving around with a chip in my windshield glass! Whew!
