Rhythm and Smooth at Blackpool 2017

There are many US pros, who are already World Class Adjudicators, who have come from American Style. Anyone of them can be invited. Bob and Julia, Eddie, Forest and Suzy, Michael and Toni, David and Olga and Theresa, Rosendo, Kloss, Kosovich, Panatellos, Not to mention people like Gary and Diana, Dustin, and Charlotte who may not have competed in it but are training the everyone...

These people already have the necessary WCD qualifications. And if they aren't already judging overseas it is because there have been no American style events to judge outside of North America.

This has been in the works for a long time from the McDonald family. They haven't been setting up the system only to have a crappy panel. I am sure the judges oveseas can still tell quality from crap. Although it will be fun to watch the results shift, due to judges that don't immediately know the average placements of the couples attending.

Or even the judges who are willing to say "screw the consensus, I'm marking what *I* think is good dancing." There was an English amateur couple that jumped from the quarters to the finals this year in Latin (blanking on the guy's name, her name was Zia).

The prices are about what I'd expect... about 65 USD per entry and almost 300 per championship. Some chain studios are more expensive.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not surprised. And goodness knows that travel costs will be the bigger difference between it and an major US-based comp.

I have to say. I turn 40 next year and had been serious considering seeing if I could swing USDC in celebration. This may just be another option. :D

Dance-forums group meet?

Maybe I'll make up my mind about a Latin dress by then.

Seems to be all styles and levels based on the program (posted on a friend's wall):

Would not disagree with any of those.. but... It depends upon whom is doing the panel selection .

Minor hijack, their reaction when they were called for the final was so heartwarming. There may have been a tear or two from me.

I wish I had seen it! Sadly, didn't have a chance to livestream the open amateur, it's been a crazy week at work (note, that didn't stop me from livestreaming open pro latin yesterday...but I also had my coaches and some additional friends to cheer for there).

Is it still available to watch? I went back and watched the RS and Amateur Latin days after the fact.

I'm also intrigued to see what they'll do music-wise. Orchestra? Canned music like last year's exhibition? The latter would probably be preferable, but who will they get to select the music?

If they offer Amateur Smooth and Rhythm, I may need to come out of my temporary dance retirement a little early ...
The lady in Atlanta with whom I've talked about doing am-am with is pretty definitely going to go for pro-am. If they *do* have am smooth as well, maybe I could talk her into trying to maximize her trip ... :D

I know there are plenty of trained judges and coaches in the U.S. I was wondering about judges and coaches from the rest of the world in the short term. In the long term, if the styles grow throughout the world there will be a pool of international judges and coaches.
