Yes, that’s Neo tango (the first few minutes that I listened to - I’ll check out the rest later) but when DJs play alternative milongas and include blues, rock, folklore not related to Argentina, etc, in addition to Neo like this example, it’s not all neotango. Neo tango is just one component of such alternative milonga. Of course, a Neo tango piece can have all these other elements incorporated, but it still has a musical connection to tango. When a piece by Nina Simone is played, it’s not Neo. It’s Nina Simone that one can dance nuevo to.

There is non-tango music later in that set, currently this is what I mostly expect if an event is labelled:

Neo: We think the music we dance to should be radically transformed to reflect current times: Electrotango + non-tango music

Nuevo: We think artists have a responsibility to develop the tango genre: Piazzolla arrangements + electrotango + contemporary tango orchestras

Traditional: We think golden age orchestration and arrangements are the ideal expression of the music: Historical orchestras + some contemporary orchestras.

These days I only see events advertise their music as either alternate or traditional. I don’t see advertisements for Neuvo or Neo. It has been a very long time since I seen Neuvo advertise. Can’t recall neotango ever been advertised.

I think in our nyc scene, a lot of followers are just used to guys just walking up to them for a verbal ask or a point blank cabaceo.

I mean, if you're talking with a friend or someone you know fairly well, it's okay to ask directly. For strangers, the mirada is preferable.

Nuevo vs neo is a distinction more related to the music than to the dance. Nuevo started w post-golden age, especially Piazzolla. Neo was a lot later and often includes electronics, drum set and other musical elements more associated with pop/rock culture, etc. To describe the dancing style that many danced to both musical styles, simply the word nuevo will do. Obviously one can also dance traditional to nuevo music.
This is at least how I’ve understood it.

Yeah and cliques quickly form in the scene so people end up just asking directly to most ppl they get comfortable with

Here, the original dancers (~1993) danced so-called "tango nuevo," "neotango," or whatever you call the Frumboli-Naveira-Salas thing.

The "milonguero style" video is very nice. I haven't seen it in a long time but it looks like I saved it a few years ago.

On stage, the miloguero style has always been danced. The social milonguero style fashion (Miller) came later. Stage tango describes itself as a style-free art: milonguero style has its place alongside nuevo and canyengue.
