To date or not to date

for the very heart of running clubs is not the athletic activity itself
ALL clubs are used for other purposes! There's a 'social' aspect. Even church groups! Running, tennis, athletics, chess, hiking, book clubs aren't immune. How else did we meet people with similar interests? I'm told you even put that into an app to meet someone. If a relationship doesn't work out, you either live with it there, or move on elsewhere. AT just has more limited venues, or a smaller group of people - and usually older demographic with an existing partner (that can change in a metropolis). Yes, you still get people joining and hoping to meet someone, but also tend towards dance for a younger set. Apps just haven't caught on beyond the WhatsApp group and social media - except, maybe, for finding milongas when travelling.

..beyond the WhatsApp.. for finding milongas when travelling.
WhatsApp boomed during the pandemic, allowing people to dance at home or in abandoned places. I'm no longer in any WhatsApp group for tango. The tango scene is mainly connected on Facebook.
In the early days of the internet, there was the group "Stranded at an Airport," which I used extensively.

Judging by out-of-date information on early find-a-milonga sites, you'd still be 'stranded'. Even some FB sites.

However I do note that there are new apps - but have no need to avail myself of them. A google search churns up dead FB information and the occasional useful gem. Some countries, or regions, have useful info.

But, re 'dating', depending what you're looking for, there are apps. Previously you met by 'hitting on someone' IRL. Inevitably, now, you'd also want to meet IRL. If you have a similar interest (tango, hiking, athletics...), why not? If you're prepared for the inevitable risk. That's life!

I do not agree with this, for the very heart of running clubs is not the athletic activity itself, Bailango, but rather the club app. It is the app that orchestrates self-optimization, body shaping, scoring, and dating.
In the world of tango, apps do not hold a comparable significance.
No idea what you are referring to. As a shared activity I see no difference between running and tango. Not even sure what it has to do with apps. Both preceded apps.

Nope. Most running clubbers spend half of the time in their running app (on smartphone). The times they are a-changing. My girlfriend, a marked researcher, did a study on this.

Could be confirmation bias in the market research.

What is a running app? Haven’t heard of it.
