What are DJs doing wrong

The DJ majority opinion is meaningless as it depends on what the local dancers prefer, I think most DJs don't play enough post 1950 music though, and conversely they play too much of the second tier GA orchestras.

I know what you talk about, it annoys me too when DJs dig dubious songs out of the junk box. The question is - would they really dance to these if they were dancers on the floor?

As stated, I play enough post 1950 music, but I have to say that at the next milonga I will probably also use one or two tracks from the "Orquesta Tipica Los Provincianos" in the second tanda of the evening, simply because I can. Will this be well received? I'll be able to report on it in two weeks...

Never heard anyone do that. Unless it's pre-set it's usually some less interesting pieces until there's sufficient dancers. We should probably turn up earlier before the good stuff goes.

Orchestras that only recorded 10-20 good tracks. We don't need to hear them every milonga and we don't need to hear the forgettable tracks either. Just play them once every 2 milongas or something.

Valid point.
At the beginning half an hour of this milonga, there are mostly couples from a previous practica on the floor. I then prefer to play a bit of "retro sound" so that on the one hand the start of the milonga setting is noticeable, on the other hand so that musical complexity does not go to high. And well, arriving dancers don't need to feel "dance-now-stress" while changing their shoes.

Depends on your standards and personal taste. I don't think theres that much material from Tanturi that really passed the test of time either.

He's not a favorite of mine but he seems to be very popular in certain quarters.
