I'm fine with three. I'm fine with three of just about anything, in fact. Except maybe for some Fresedo or Canaro.

Many here DJ. I don’t. I do not think the DJs will have a challenge to drop one song from their 4-song tanda play list. It should be easier to compose a 3-song tanda. Only those who DJ can opine if that is true.

P.S. - For the umpteenth time, I never been to a milonga with three songs tanda yet. That includes all the cities and places I danced. I would prefer a 3 song tanda.

A practica doesn't need tandas (or even a DJ), they only disturb the couples who are working together.
But I also play 3 song tandas at low key milongas, where the dancers' attention span isn't long enough for more.

Basically, a práctica doesn't need someone else's music at all. During my active tango period, I always created my own playlist and brought it with me. If other couples didn't agree with my list, they could always come to an agreement with me to avoid each other's schedules. But luckily the majority of tango dancers (especially male leaders) were immune to my musical selection, not to say deaf! Most tango dancers can hardly distinguish tango from waltz or cha-cha-chá or milonga.

Many practicas, depending on where you are located, are basically casual milongas. I welcome tandas in most of the practicas I’ve been to.

No, not really. Even the most rudimentary prácticas here have a DJ. There are some that become practilongas in the sense that people mostly dance (rather than practice fundamental exercises or specific movements) but the prácticas are what you make of them. They're flexible.

I’d actually enjoy 2 song tandas at a practilonga. Short and snappy get around to all my friends/favourites and throw in a charity tanda. Nothing worse than getting stuck with a bad partner for multiple songs.

If you mean trying to convince you to dance one more last time when you are changing shoes, I see guys do that often. Half the time followers will change mind and say yes.

Yes but my community is very small and guys accept changed shoes as “I’m done dancing”. It’s not unusual to continue chatting or enjoying the music for a little longer.

It's your personal choice what you do in those circumstances, or even the 2nd tanda. Some may welcome another dance opportunity; others may want to get home, or have another appointment. 'No', means no. EndOf. It's just about how it's phrased to that person.

In my early years, I was frequently treated very harshly by followers if I dared to ask someone who was about to change her shoes. I have stored and internalized this visual deadline as an important codigo of tango. Therefore, I think that followers should also strictly adhere to it and also teach it to leaders.
