I have that problem with socks. I own a bunch of black socks that should theoretically all be the same color because they are the exact same style/brand, but somehow they have varying, barely imperceptible shades of navy or brown. Matching them up after laundry is a crapshoot. Then I get to work and under fluorescent lights it's clear that one is super black and one is navy-ish. Sigh. Thank goodness for pants and shoes with coverage.
 
Glasses help with focus. The issue of sorting black from navy blue is a result of the quality of light. Under "warm" lighting in a typical home, it is hard to distinguish these colors. Under "cooler" light such as daylight or perhaps office lighting or a mixture window lighting and overhead lighting, the difference between black and navy blue is more obvious.

In order to avoid this, inspect yourself before leaving the house under window lighting or lighting from "daylight" bulbs.

Welcome to my world. Generally, I lay out my outfit for each work day the previous day, preferable during daylight hours; this includes belts, hosiery (including socks), scarves, jewelry and shoes. Sometimes I plan two or three work day outfits at a time. There are two main benefits: 1) it saves time in the morning getting ready for work, and 2) it avoids the mismatch issue you described.

That's not to say that sometimes I get up in the morning and don't like the outfit I've laid out the day before. But most times I just change one or two things, and not start from scratch. For example, I got up today and hated the top, so I picked another top didn't need ironed, added a big sparkly ring for no good reason other than I felt like wearing it, and went with everything else. Problem solved.

Also I'd suggest carefully sorting your socks on laundry day, and rolling them together in your sock drawer. That way one doesn't get separated from its mate. :)
 
Yeah, The problem actually happened on laundry day. I'm not entirely sure how the black tights got in with the other ones - black tights and other-coloured tights are kept separately (like, in different drawers) for a reason!

Still, wearing tights with my dress. They have no holes. No one has noticed that they are not navy. I am going to consider this an outfit win.
 
Buy some big stainless steel safety pins and and pin your socks together when you take them off, before you toss them in the hamper.

I did something like this years ago. I wore tennis shoes to work. When I went to change into dress shoes at my desk, I discovered that I had brought a pair of mismatched shoes to work. So I wore the tennis shoes all day. No one really cared; it just looked funny.
 
Got an system-wide e-mail at 1:38, asking us to log out of our HR system by 1:30 and until further notice because an update process failed overnight and needs to be re-run, etc.

A) I don't have a time machine.
B) I had planned to spend the better part of the afternoon in the system doing staffing, etc.
C) I was actually in it and typing when I got the message. So anything I'd entered and hadn't saved might be lost. Awesome.
