    Partner has another partner

Both of my previous partners (clarification: I did not partner with them at the same time) had other partners in the same style. It hurts. With partner #1, I found out from someone’s Facebook post and he admitted when I confronted him. He claimed he only intended taking group classes with her...

    Bored

Well, right now I am working on foxtrot. So how about your view on intricacies of feather step and three step for follower to make it look like a real foxtrot - pisition of feet, hips, center, shoulders, head and spine (did I muss anything)? This is just an example.... These kind of questions...

    Bored

Yeah. At least I noticed the moderators stopped referring “controversial” subjects to search function on old posts. But seriously, it seems like everything has been discussed and said already: teacher problems, partner problems, competition blues pre- and post-, dresses, make-up, hair.... I...

Practice: number of total hours or number of days per week?

I have wooden floors too in some parts of the house, but I am terrified dancing in shoes on them being afraid to leave scratches, so I dance in socks, which is not the same obviously. Yes I have heel protectors, but do they really help with scratches? Besides, my instructor doesn’t believe in...

Practice: number of total hours or number of days per week?

I should have clarified: I am a competitive pro/am dancer and I am trying to get more solo practice into my schedule. I take 2 private lessons a week, but practicing by myself has not been a part of my routine on a regular basis. I started doing so once a week at the studio and already see...

Practice: number of total hours or number of days per week?

I apologize if this has been discussed already. For a faster progress (all other factors equal), is it better, let’s say, practice 4 times a week for 45min, or 2 times a week for 1.5 hour? I mean, real practice, not counting pre-practice warm up or stretching.

Guess how many pairs of shoes you have worn since you started dancing

About 25 pairs, including practice, competition, special performance shoes and random shoes like ballet slippers and jazz shoes.

Where to look for past competitions results?

It appears certain comps ( the ones I usually attend or am interested in) stopped using o2cm system around 2014, so I guess o2cm stopped posting results from non participating comps which makes sense, I suppose. Is there any way to find results of those comps other than checking their websites...

Where to look for past competitions results?

O2cm was a convinient site to look for individual results in one place. I believe they no longer post individual results (?), the system goes only until year 2014. Is there another site I can look at someone’s results between 2014 and now? I am mostly interested in Pro/am results. Thanks

    burnout: causes and timeline

I find myself circling between frustration and obsession. I wish I could move to lack of interest and stop this madness. Yes, I do love dancing, I alway will. But I come to realization that exact placement of my shoulders, my head, my ribs, hips and other body parts (or what you may call a...

The #metoo movement and how it applies to the dance community

Anyway I see your point, Swingingslone, but your situation was different. If he appears to be skilled dancer, 3rd dance in a row makes me question his intent. Maybe it’s just me.

The #metoo movement and how it applies to the dance community

On social awareness: I understand it can be difficult for guys, but if a girl likes you, she for sure will let you know, learning to recognize the signs is crucial. I would say keep your distance and observe her for a while if your intention is beyond just dancing. Don’t ask to dance more than...

The #metoo movement and how it applies to the dance community

There were a lot of creeps attending social dance parties at a studio I used to go to, old and young. Part of the reason I don’t dance socially with unfamiliar men (only with friends). Touching below waist, asking to come to a private dance lesson with them at their house, asking for a phone...

Judges judging out of their main discipline...

Interesting to find this old thread... I first hand experienced much higher marks from all Standard judges than from Latin ones at a recent comp. I dance Standard pro/am. Had there been one more Standard judge on the panel, we might have swept the competition. My instructor tells me it happens...

    First competition.

My previous coach once said that at first competition you compete with yourself, not others. Maybe at second one as well. You can start look around at your third competition. My first two comps were most memorable and most disastrous: dancing was bad, very bad, but nevertheless I felt...

Viennese Waltz: The Close Body Contact is Insane

It happened to me once while dancing with a guy I knew pretty well as a friend. I said nothing, he was too quiet after the dance, it never happened again, I laugh now remembering this.

Who decides what competitions to attend?

Thanks everyone. Of course no one can force anyone to do anything, I never doubted that part. I also know how pro/am works and how fees are getting split between students. I can also do a simple math and realize he will earn my month’s salary in just one day by taking 4-5 students to a one-day...
