Best New Songs

Brian Wilson's latest album, Pier Pressure, was released today. It contains a couple of rumbas:

On the Island (American tempo):

Tell Me Why (Slow International Tempo):

The songs are not good.

There are about two hundred songs mentioned in this thread. I listened to about half of them.

Terrible! Most of the songs are bad or unsuitable for dancing, either musically, or tempo-wise, character-wise, performing-wise, time-signature-wise, otherwise. I didn't add any of the songs to my song list.

This shows how rare a good ballroom song (or music) is. We knew that, didn't we? But it is true for all good things - you need to search through many to encounter a good one.

(I am hoping that my DJs don't look into this thread - please don't tell them! They might like some of the songs, especially since they are backed by DF's authority and expertise.)

I'm considering starting a thread on CW dances like Cowboy Cha Cha, and Schottische, or adding to the existing threads.
West Coast Swing, too
But then, my observations could be considered as being Negative!

In short, we can superimpose rhythms onto music and dance certain dances to many different songs. Kind of like Dancing with the Stars, only in real life.

The more you get into the music, the more you become aware of this, it seems.
Most songs are not one thing or another, as far as what dance to do. Someone christens it, "This a [fill in the blank]," but most often it isn't really. You can just do that dance TO that song, let's say reasonably well.

Still, hope this doesn't dissuade anyone from posting new songs and discussing how you could dance to them.

Negative is when you have to rain on someone else's parade

Considering the dance community is spread over the entire world, where exists many different cultures and backgrounds and peoples of all walks of life; it is insane to hem EVERYONE into the same taste/preference in music. Music is artistry. Dance is artistry and is unique to the individual. Taste in dance and in music is unique to the individual. Different things move different people. We are not robots programmed alike. Allow people to like what they like. If you don't like it ... you are allowed that.

Heard this awhile ago at the end of Hunger Games: Mockingjay (Part 1) and loved it for WCS. Quite an intro but it's got a lot to play with.

Here's an interesting song I heard today, but it does break the rules being more than 2 years old. Came out in 2010, and I hear both a slow Foxtrot and Cha-Cha-Cha in it...
