in my case I did not compile the list with the intent that it be implemented in its entirety by all DJs everywhere ....

I still believe in diversity and compile this list with the expectation that different people with different tastes and likes will be attracted to different songs. I compile this list fully anticipating that one person may only take one or two songs from it; while another person may take one or two different songs; while yet another may take ten songs from it.

I simply throw out my finds as a way to make other people aware of their existence whereas they knew nothing about it before hand. If someone can take away even one song then I feel it was worth the effort. Since people do like different things for different reasons I simply put in some suggestions - It is up to the different people to decide what they are or aren't going to take away from it; since no single person can control everyone else's tastes ....

and since I know at least one person liked one of my suggestions then I am content

I LOVE Post Modern Jukebox. They were just here for an outdoor concert 2 weeks ago and it was freakin' awesome! The whole time my friend and I were playing "name that ballroom dance" (mostly FT, which is fine with me). For those who are thinking "PostModern huh?", it is a cover band founded by a piano player who re-imagines pop songs as swingy, jazzy, sometimes ragtime-y gems.

FWIW, the version of "All About the Bass" played for the Smooth FT exhibition at Blackpool found somewhere around here is one of their arrangements. They use different (mostly) unknown singers for each song they do. The vocalist in the video above is an American Idol finalist from a few years ago who is currently on tour with them.

Can you tell I'm a fan? LOL

I assume it's being used for Nightclub 2 Step or something like that, unless it's receiving significant tempo adjustment. I prefer the Karen Souza version, which still needs a little tempo adjustment to be comfortable for Foxtrot.

Most of that genre of waltzes would not be acceptably danceable in a competition setting. Tempo changes are used for effect liberally, and the range includes not fast enough and far too fast within the same song often. And when it's changed to use tempo change less, you end up with carousel - esque music with some variance in energy / dynamics. It is beautiful music and probably wasn't bad to dance to when the dancing was in closed hold and more relaxed with its approach to lead/follow, but the modern era of competitive ballroom would not want to adopt music that used tempo changes so liberally as an expressive element.
