DWTS Season 5 - Week 5

With six complete I've got it scored as follows ...

Sabrina ... 9
Jennie ... 9
Helio ... 8
Jane ... 7
Marie ... 7
Mark ... 6

Hmmm ... Mel's Samba did seem a tad bit better than Sabrina's and Jennie's, but it didn't seem enough for me to give her a 10.

I really liked Helio's rumba, I thought he was sensual and I was really disappointed with the judges putting him down and with their low scores for him. And Julianne was absolutely gorgeous.

I did not get into Mel's samba. I did not see what the judges saw. But I am not a ballroom dancer. Was it dynamic? Yes. But for me it was missing samba sensuality and hip action. It certainly did not deserve a 10.

Vote for Helio, he needs our votes!

Hmmm ... Cameron's rumba leaves me in a quandry. He seems to be really going for it, yet I'm not sure there is enough latin movement and dancing with his effort either.

My last scores for this evening ...

Mel ... 9
Sabrina ... 9
Jennie ... 9
Cameron ... 8
Helio ... 8
Jane ... 7
Marie ... 7
Mark ... 6

Again I so agree with you. Cameron for me has no passion whatsoever with his stale look and no hip movement, believe me, he could not turn me on ever. Cameron 2x9 and Helio a 7? I cannot believe it and am really miffed at the judges.

Yes, he did improve but that was actually the only way he could go because at the beginning he was bad, bad. But give him 9s? It is ridiculous.

I love Helio normally, but the expression on his face tonight looked either pained or constipated, I cant figure out which. Either one, he looked so silly that I couldnt even watch his dancing (and normally I LOVE him!).

I didnt see what was so special about Mel's samba either. I certainly didnt think it was 10 worthy. Nor that much better than Jennie's. Derek has just done a great job with Jennie. She's not perfect by any means, but she does really well for where she started from.

Sabrina did well, but as someone on MOIB's chat said, she's just too "harsh and athletic" with her movements. And Jane DID do alot of posing but she managed to be both graceful and sexy at the same time, while both guys to me just looked awkward. I dont know if it just easier to fake a rumba if you are a woman rather than a man or what, but very few men on the show have ever looked "right" to me while doing rumba. Mostly just awkward and/or stiff.

OH! And totally NOT COOL to give Mel one of her own songs to dance to, which just happens to be a great samba. Not fair at all...add that to the too high marks and I think the show is trying to compensate for her lack of votes by trying everything they can to keep her on.

When is the show available on the ABC web site? Looks like I won't see it in SoCal because of the fire coverage. (I'm not near any fires, thank goodness, but it is very bad for those who are.)

I was near a fire in LA when I was a kid and the memories are still very vivid. It's a scary experience. Glad to hear you're OK.

Interesting.

Regarding Mel B dancing to her own song... wouldn't the other couples have had a chance to complain about it if they wanted to? Don't they all pick from a pool of music each week? Or did I misread that article posted earlier incorrectly?

I'm still waiting for them to do a group Mambo/Salsa to the opening credits song.

My understanding, from an interview I read, is that the couples are assigned their music. (I shudder to think that there might be even worse music in a "pool" that the pros rejected in favor of the horrible things they often have to dance to!)
