What are you excited about in your dancing right now?

I'm super excited about a showcase dance that I'm doing next weekend with my dance partner.
It's to "The Greatest Show" from the movie "The Greatest Showman". It has tango, mambo, and musical theatre in it (50% tango though), as well as some lifts. It's going to be really epic...we're hoping.

Meh. Just kind of drifting right now. Taking random lessons but not doing much aside from attending socials and spectating at comps. I'd really like to do more am-am, but there's that "partner thing" that keeps getting in the way, i.e. no am partner.

I started pro am last year, standard and Latin, danced 2 competitions, pretty much uncontested, and spent a fortune on that. Decided now to just do solo routines for fun. When I think of dance I picture 40s movies so we are choreographing foxtrot and waltz, smooth style, bringing Fred and Ginger back. It's great fun!

I chose a wonderful waltz for my next showcase with my standard instructor Mary.

The protocol between us is that we share possible showcase music before we approve or deny that selection together. But I was so certain that she would approve that I simply "announced" that this was to be "our" (my) choice. Although she bristled at first at my blatant lack of diplomacy, she eventually fell in love with the song. For the past month (four lessons), we have been hammering out open choreography for our dance. Earlier today during my latest lesson, I was dancing "all out" and doing a hella good job for me. But I could tell that she was still "holding back" just a little because she is a stronger dancer and my "senior partner." (I believe that superior instructors don't "out dance" their students during showcases. ) I was simultaneously pleased with myself for "throwing my all" into this innovative waltz choreography; and, at the same time humbled by my instructor's superior skill sets. We both admitted to "enjoying ourselves" during my lesson.

The month of May was a whirlwind for me. I performed in three showcases and competed in a local comp. The event that stood out to me was a performance at a fundraising event in front of a few hundred people at an upscale hotel. This was the largest crowd for whom I've ever performed. I work in a hospital for several physicians and many of them were there. I was excited and nervous to dance for everyone and show this other side of my life. And I think our performance was the best my partner and I have ever done in a show. My coach was there too and said I came alive like she hadn't seen before. It was amazing to be lit up in a dark room and give myself completely to the dance (we did a samba-quickstep combination). People came up to us - ones we knew and ones we didn't - and told us they loved our performance. I felt amazing. That show was a few weeks ago now, but I'm still pretty excited about it.

Just realized yesterday that a comp offers AT as an option...am starting to get ideas here...I've got a lot of time to think about this...
