What are you excited about in your dancing right now?

My Studio moved to a new location. They held their Grand Opening yesterday. My dance teacher and I danced a reprise of one of our prop driven solos for the occasion. I posted the original a couple of years ago but thought people might enjoy see this version as well. It was fun to perform and went really well.

EDIT: Hmmm....embed dosn't appear to work. I will try a direct link.

I finally started to take private lessons in Latin ( I started standard back in 2014). And what a pleasant surprise! Even though my feet, tummy, back, behind... are constantly in various states of pain, but I do feel like making lots of progress, especially the body awareness part! My standard was at a bottleneck for the past 2 years, the Latin lessons actually are helping my standard dances tremendously also. My Latin teacher, she is just fabulous, and fantastic as a teacher, pinpoint my problems and give me simple drills to improve. I just need to put in tons of practice now. Hopefully 1-2 years from now, people will finally stop telling me "Your samba looks good. But maybe it is not a real samba"

I'm pretty excited about competing!

The others students who are competing from my studio are entering a zillion heats, but I figured for my first I'd limit to three. (I'm guessing I'll come in last in everything. I'm really poor at east coast swing because I picked up a HUGE number of bad habits and we only started to focus on fixing them two weeks ago. But let's face it, someone has to come in last!!)Untitled.png

Settling into consistent routines after a year of constantly altering choreography. Time for the real work and real dancing to start!

I don't think there's a thing I'm not excited about right now with regards to dance which is awesome (especially since I just came out of a doldrumy phase a couple of months back) but what I'm most excited about is my new Rumba routine. Lots of consecutive spins, lots of different timings, and lots of things that I know are just making me better and have produced a bunch of small "eureka moments" as my body finally does "that thing my coach told me to do weeks ago".

I am SUPER EXCITED about my dancing at Ohio Star Ball. For my first time there, I danced well, and the results showed it! And the results were even better than I could have expected. I had gone in aiming to make the finals and place well in B rising star open rhythm , and stretch goal was to make the open rhythm finals in B. Holy crap did I surpass my own expectations! 2nd place rising star, 3rd place open!! (yes, i'm bragging a bit, sorry, excited). It was an incredible experience - I loved how i danced, even with the small bobbles, and i barely got my pro frustrated - which is a win right there. Only was off time in mambo ONCE so yay, was able to navigate around the crowded floor, and my stamina was better. A couple of other pros and students mentioned how much I'd improved, which is always so nice to hear. I just want to keep on keepin' on!
