I came down with a severe tooth abscess last weekend, so have a root canal to look forward to in the new year, and now I'm having a spectacular reaction to one of the antibiotics I was on. Full body, supremely itchy rash that is hot to the touch. I've spent the last two days doing the benadryl-ice/cold compress-acetaminophen-oatmeal bath cycle and trying not to scratch.

I don't know whether the tooth pain or the itching was/is worse :(

Update: The itching was worse. It took a week of prescription antihistamines and steroids to clear it up... but the tooth saga is not over. Saw the specialist for a consultation this week, and have been warned that the root canal is not a guaranteed success. Everyone cross your fingers that it works and I won't lose the tooth, please!

The funny: All the dental professionals I have seen think this infection (and the likely cause of a small crack in the tooth that is visible under magnification) comes from getting nailed in the face during cha-cha at a comp this summer. Strangest dance injury ever, maybe?
 
If you have a crack, an implant is in your future—and the root canal is just an expensive step along the way.
 
Not a whine, just a really! One of the residents in my condo community still has their Christmas tree up. I saw the tree lit up in the window when I drove past the condo yesterday evening. Now I can see putting the tree up at Thanksgiving, and having it up until New Year's. But January 9? Really?? It's time to take the tree down. And I'm pretty sure the residents are home, and not out of town.
 
Little Christmas (Jan 6) is big in some communities... maybe they are part of that tradition? I know, for example, that the tree at the studio usually comes down the weekend after Little Christmas.
 
Maybe. As I remember, the residents put their tree up early at Thanksgiving. It's pretty, but I'd think by now they should be tired of looking at it. If the tree doesn't come down by this weekend, then I'm going to say it's just laziness on their part.

Hold my beer.

(I've always wanted to use that expression.) Anyway, when I was growing up, we often didn't get around to taking down the tree until mid- to late-January, by which time half the pine needles had fallen off. #procrastinators

Also, my Russian (or quasi-Russian) pro mentioned that his "Christmas" was just last week. Eastern Orthodox Christmas is January 7 this year according to google. Don't know if there are trees involved.

On annoyances.... someone at my company who uses the 1st bathroom stall keeps leaving half of their makeshift toilet seat cover (long strip of toilet paper) on the seat. Is it really that hard to turn around and make sure you flushed it? Oh, and there are actual toilet seat covers available in each stall. /eyeroll

The traditional last day decorations can be up is January 6th. That's the "twelfth day of Christmas" and also epiphany. Of course not everyone is traditional. But if you stick with tradition, you get to attribute your grumpyness about their tardiness on that.
 
I don't see any harm in anyone leaving a tree up as long as they like. I am much more bothered by seeing them really early (October, in the stores!) than one in someone's house left up late.

They could be enjoying it. They could be waiting for some family member that couldn't make it home for Christmas to come home some other week. They may have a different tradition and schedule than what you're used to (Orthodox, or others as mentioned above.) They could be busy, or lazy, or ill, or whatever. But short of fire hazards, I don't see a problem.

I have a friend that likes her (artificial, carefully decorated) tree so much she leaves it up all year round! It's in a side room, not in the main living area. She showed it to me one summer. :)
 
Or they could be in and out of hospital and rehab, caring for family members, and just don't have the energy to make the tree a priority. (Ask me how I know.)
 
Bitter cold and over 5 inches of snow overnight, and it's still snowing, but I made it into work. It's a good thing I have traction control and anti lock brakes, and I know how to drive in the snow. My car started to fishtail and slide several times on the way in, but I turned the wheel and righted the car. What happened to our supposed weather policies of allowing telework and or emergency leave at work? I am angry.

I live just outside Chicago. The temperature this morning has risen to a balmy 7C. We were in the -20s the last to days. In anticipation of weather, I moved my wednesday class to today! (My car is ok. But my teacher is young, and he and I both know is car is iffy in this weather. But honestly, I did it for me. I don't want to be out driving when it's -25F and slipper. Any accident becomes a grave danger because you have to end up outside walking or standing. No way I was going to risk it!)

The trash pick up was deferred to spare the crew going out in -20F. Mail is deferred.
Today things are back to "normal". It supposed to warm up today and actually get warm!

But today, I do have a lesson. Yay!
 
School was cancelled three days this week. Mail delivery was cancelled one day. I'm not mad about the cold weather so much. I am perturbed about the spectacular fail of our local weather forecast - 1 to 2 inches of snow??!! Really??!! Then what's all that fluffy stuff out there. And I'm perturbed about the what appears to be almost nonexistent treatment of roads, which made driving a dangerous challenge. And, I wish I would have had the opportunity to work from home today.
