Who are the best pro-am teachers/studios in the NC/SC/GA region?

Depends on the style. In Atlanta there’s a handful of pros who are really known for students that do well. Some are more known for American or international. depends on what you want. and all the good teachers here are independent. So no real group glasses for competitive students.

Syllabus or Opens? Fastest path to becoming a high-level competitor

How do you define High level competitor? Making open finals at huge comps? Making syllabus finals at huge comps? ive won or placed in the top 3 at Ohio and USDC in bronze and silver in 3 styles. Then I’ve taken a pretty major break. But to get to open at a high level? It took me about 5...

    2021 competition opportunities

I’d you’re really a competitive dancer, one day comps aren’t going to be what you want.

Ohio vs USDC: If you could only do one which is best?

Ohio hands down. Better competition, less expensive, great way to end the year. USDC tends to be a bit more political /hit or miss, in my experience.

How to encourage my new latin partner also to dance standard

Sorry, not sure if it’ll happen. I do 3 styles. I will do standard over my dead body. It took a lot to even get me to try smooth. And it’s still my least favorite of the three

    All Corona related issues

Btw- that’s not really what institutional racism means. It’s other name is systemic racism. So it’s not about how institutions are racist (as in your affirmative action college example) it’s how the system has been set up to put white people at an advantage. Solid Ground defines...

    All Corona related issues

What happened in this thread has reinforced my experiences from the past 8 months that the ballroom community is actually much less inclusive and must less like the world I want to be in. Which makes me think I won’t be in it much longer. Because if anything the last year has shown me, is that...

Should I tell Old teacher about New teacher?

As a person who has sort of done it both ways- you need to be straight up ahead of time with OT. I once was exploring options before I talked to my teacher- he heard about it in about .3 seconds and it got really crappy real fast. Vs when I finally Left a couple years later and we spoke...

    Emotion, expression thoughts

Actually, I’m going to piggy back off this. First of all, welcome to DF! Looking back on your posts, it seems that you are a young amateur syllabus dancer with an am partner who has not yet competed. I’m going to go against the grain and say at lower syllabus levels emotion won’t get you as...

    All Corona related issues

Seeing what teachers, comp organizers, and vendors have posted on Facebook in the past few months related to BLM, politics, etc. has FOREVER impacted my opinion of them. Thus there are now comps, coaches, and vendors I will never spend my money with again. Everyone has a right to their...

    Standard dancer adding smooth?

nope- I think you’re discovering the difference in teaching styles that are often in difference between international and American style. Remember, American style was created from a social dance perspective- where people often wanted the FREEDOM from the highly technical. I dance 3 styles- my...
