That song is so horrible it makes me think all songs played at comps should be reviewed and approved. Sometimes I think the DJs have too much power. I've thought the same for WCS comp music.
 
I see my Why? doesn't really make sense so...
Regarding not using "real" VW music...

the modern era of competitive ballroom would not want to adopt music that used tempo changes so liberally as an expressive element.

It's not just WCS comps. It's dance West Coast Swing to anything. I blame the, what I call, single dance venues. But then I tend to not value very highly the musicality of most dancers I see on the social dance floor. I recently had to explain to someone who asked about nite club 2 step, that the dancers weren't really dancing to what was happening in the music.

Steve.. this same discussion was had on the salsa forum .

The root of the problem is.. many "teachers ?" do not themselves, have enough experience with the complex compositions of music in general. And, their music library is not always "range " complete.

In addition, if one uses music for teaching that does not reflect the dance style/ genre, then the end result is what one sees all too frequently.

For comp. work, there is much more musical licence, which does not usually fit the social dance arena .

FWIW, the version of "All About the Bass" played for the Smooth FT exhibition at Blackpool found somewhere around here is one of their arrangements. They use different (mostly) unknown singers for each song they do. The vocalist in the video above is an American Idol finalist from a few years ago who is currently on tour with them.

PMJ is AWESOME; even more so now that they have taken in Haley! That was just her style of music I loved her for on AI. Now she does it all the time with PMJ!
 
Anyone has a decent idea what would work with this one. I vote for a Slow Waltz. Just want to double check if there's anything better than that :)

Overall, I am extremely happy to learn about Post Modern Jukebox ("Oh, that's where all of those covers have been coming from!"), but, yes, I agree with you about that one. Pro was playing it a lot for a while, but he lost his playlists due to some mechanical/electronic problem so I haven't heard it recently. Really, wasn't anything I did to his phone.... :D
 
Jive (~160 bpm)? Might have jumped the gun on posting this. I can't seem to figure it out.

Tango, American Rumba or a Cha Cha:


I like it best for Tango though... feels like it fits the mood of the song better, even if the tempo is a bit slow for it at about 115 bpm.
